چکیده

Flexible grids are used in many Geoscience applications because they can accurately adapt to the great diversity of shapes encountered in nature. These grids raise a number difficult challenges, in particular for fast volume visualization. We propose a generic incremental slicing algorithm for versatile visualization of unstructured grids, these being constituted of arbitrary convex cells. The tradeoff between the complexity of the grid and the efficiency of the method is addressed by special-purpose data structures and customizations. A general structure based on oriented edges is defined to address the general case. When only a limited number of polyhedron types is present in the grid (zoo grids), memory usage and rendering time are reduced by using a catalog of cell types generated automatically. This data structure is further optimized to deal with stratigraphic grids made of hexahedral cells. The visualization method is applied to several gridded subsurface models conforming to geological structures. r 2005 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

Two-Dimensional Boundary-Conforming Orthogonal Grids for External and Internal Flows Using Schwarz-Christoffel Transformation

In this paper, a Schwarz-Christoffel method for generating two-dimensional grids for a variety of complex internal and external flow configurations based on the numerical integration procedure of the Schwarz-Christoffel transformation has been developed by using Mathematica, which is a general purpose symbolic-numerical-graphical mathematics software. This method is highly accurate (fifth order...

Constructing Geometric Models of the Subsurface for Finite Element Simulation

Finite element based simulation is an important tool to assess processes in the subsurface, such as groundwater flow or CO2 storage in reservoirs. The simulation requires the generation of suitable input models which are usually generated using specialized software packages for geometrical modelling such as GOCAD. Generally this software supports two types of 3D grids: structured grids that con...

Categorically-algebraic topology and its applications

This paper introduces a new approach to topology, based on category theory and universal algebra, and called categorically-algebraic (catalg) topology. It incorporates the most important settings of lattice-valued topology, including poslat topology of S.~E.~Rodabaugh, $(L,M)$-fuzzy topology of T.~Kubiak and A.~v{S}ostak, and $M$-fuzzy topology on $L$-fuzzy sets of C.~Guido. Moreover, its respe...
